Lagos Labour Party Claims Daily Depletion of National Resources Under Tinubu-Led Government

On Wednesday, the Labour Party in Lagos State expressed concern, alleging that under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, Nigerians are waking up daily to the purported misappropriation of the nation's resources.

The party highlighted Tinubu's catchphrase during the presidential campaign, "Emilokan" (It is my turn), which they claim has transformed into "Awalokan" (It is our turn) to allegedly exploit the country's resources. The state's party publicity secretary, Olubunmi Odesanya, conveyed these sentiments in a statement.

Odesanya asserted that while a significant number of Nigerians struggle to afford basic necessities, those in positions of power are enjoying opulent lifestyles. The Labour Party's state publicity secretary characterized Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope' mantra as a jamboree and warned that Nigerians should brace themselves for a challenging journey ahead.

“Nigerians now wake up daily to the pilferage of the country’s resources by the present APC government. It has become obvious that the Emilokan (It is my turn) has now become Awalokan (It is our turn) not only to rule but to steal,” she said.

Odesanya expressed dismay over the government's allocation of substantial resources to sponsor delegates to COP28, highlighting the stark contrast with the prevailing challenges of insecurity and a struggling economy faced by Nigerians.

She lamented the helplessness of the common man as basic necessities become increasingly unattainable, juxtaposed against the affluent lifestyles of those in power. Odesanya criticized the exorbitant spending on the renovation of politicians' residences, allocation of billions for cars to the first lady's (unconstitutional) office, and extravagant foreign trips by government officials to events they need not attend. Meanwhile, the ordinary citizens bear the brunt of Nigerian authorities' actions, grappling with bombings, hunger, terrorism, banditry, and the debilitating impact of weakened purchasing power.

The Labour Party spokesperson accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately inflicting punishment on Nigerians, recognizing that the majority of voters did not support them. She recalled the APC's initial promise of change, which she argued resulted in a reversal of positive developments in the country. The once-touted anti-corruption stance of the party crumbled, with the new leadership characterized as engaging in a 'Renewed Hopelessness' jamboree.

Odesanya challenged anyone to identify a promise made and fulfilled by the current administration, concluding that Nigerians should brace themselves for a challenging journey ahead under the leadership of what she referred to as "monsters in power."
